Understanding the day-by-day process of the grand pilgrimage
Entering the state of Ihram (consecration) from the Miqat. Pilgrims go to Mina where they spend the day and night in prayers and supplications. Intense spiritual preparation before the day of Arafat. Setting up in tents, collective prayers.
The most important day of Hajj. Departure from Mina after Fajr prayer to go to Mount Arafat. Standing (Wuquf) on the plain of Arafat from noon until sunset. Prayer, supplications (dua), asking for forgiveness. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Hajj is Arafat". After sunset, departure to Muzdalifah.
Night at Muzdalifah under the stars, collecting pebbles. After Fajr prayer, return to Mina. Stoning of the large pillar (Jamrat Al-Aqaba) with 7 pebbles. Sacrifice of a sheep (Udhiya). Shaving or cutting hair (Tahallul). Tawaf Al-Ifada (obligatory circumambulation) in Mecca. Sai between Safa and Marwa.
Pilgrims remain in Mina for the days of Tashriq. Each day after noon: stoning of the 3 pillars (small, medium, large) with 7 pebbles each = 21 pebbles/day. Option to leave on the 12th or 13th depending on choice. Prayers, supplications, brotherhood. Before leaving Mina: Tawaf Al-Wada (farewell circumambulation) in Mecca.
